Russia Creates Cancer Vaccine, Will Be Distributed Free of Charge in 2025

International – Libassonline.com || The Russian Ministry of Health has created a cancer vaccine that is planned to be distributed free of charge starting in 2025.

This vaccine uses genetic material derived from the patient’s tumor, and costs around 300,000 rubles or around Rp. 47.5 million per dose. “This vaccine is intended to treat cancer patients, not to prevent tumor formation,” said Head of the Radiological Medical Research Center of the Russian Ministry of Health Andrey Kaprin, quoted from BusinessToday, Wednesday (12/18).

The process of making the Russian cancer vaccine Director of the Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, Alexander Gintsburg revealed the process of making the Russian cancer vaccine.

“It takes quite a long time to create a personalized vaccine because the computation using a customized vaccine or mRNA must look like using the matrix method, in mathematical terms,” he said. His party involved the Ivannikov Institute which relies on AI in carrying out neural network computational calculations.

The computational procedure takes around 30 minutes to an hour.

This vaccine uses components of the patient’s tumor to train the immune system to identify and attack cancer cells. Later, the vaccine will help the body recognize unique proteins known as antigens, which are found on the surface of cancer cells.

After recognizing each other, these antigens will stimulate the immune system to produce antibodies, allowing it to target and destroy cancer cells more effectively.

Similar to vaccines being developed by Western countries.

Reported by IndiaToday, Wednesday (12/18/2024), this vaccine is personalized for each patient, similar to vaccines being developed by Western countries.

Even so, further details regarding the type of cancer treated, its effectiveness, and its distribution have not been explained. Other countries are also developing personalized cancer vaccines.

In May 2024, a team of researchers at the University of Florida tested a personalized vaccine on four patients with glioblastoma, a very aggressive type of brain cancer.

The study revealed that the vaccine triggered a strong immune response within two days of injection.

“In less than 48 hours, we could see these tumors go from what we call a cold immune response, very few immune cells, a very quiescent immune response, to ‘hot’, to a very active immune response,” said study co-author Elias Sayour.

In the UK, scientists are testing a personalized vaccine for melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer. Early results from the study suggest the vaccine significantly improves survival.

“This is my best chance of stopping cancer,” said Steve Young, a melanoma patient taking part in the trial.
